Shabby Chic

Shabby chic is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time, a soft, opulent, yet cottage-style decor, often with a feminine feel is emphasised to differentiate it from genuine period decor.-wikipedia

Take the plunge this summer and dive into shabby chic.

I believe at least one of the rooms in your home should be shabby chic decor because it has a very refreshing summer appeal.

Convert a small corner of a room into shabby chic....

or a porch...

...or a guestroom.

Be daring and attempt to shabby chic the dining area!

Add this pretty feminine petticoat tablecloth (also comes in white). So pretty!

A few of my own shabby chic pieces (light pink vases and blue planter from Tai Pan Trading).

Fabric slipcovers for your living room.      This petticoat chandlier is cute for a nursery.

Summer is...

Summer is....roadside dining.

Host a Movie Night

HOST A MOVIE NIGHT

Throw down lots of  pillows...

....OR have a guest sit on a large sectional...

...OR if lucky a big elaborate theater.

Hosting a movie night can be fun!
Invite family and friends over and play a movie trivia game. Give gifts for the person who wins the movie trivia game and in addition to the movie, as a parting gift give out posters based on movies of a particular genre. For example, if the movie being watched is a sci fi movie give out sci fi movie posters.

Chanel Spring 2013

I like the unexpected pairing of these outfits with the platform sneakers. Each of the outfits could easily transform from a casual playful outfit to a fancy outfit for a special occasion. I also love the 18th century hair inspired by Marie Antionette and the famous people of the time. The show was at the gardens of Versailles in France. Amazing!

First Day of Summer...

The Dog Days of Summer has begun....Let the Games begin.....

Love this!

Summer Wedding

Plan a gorgeous beach summer wedding without breaking the bank...

Rent white, wooden chairs and have someone who knows how to sew create chair covers, much like the pretty blue ones shown here. A canopy can be built and some fabric can be bought for a special centerpiece.  Buy some fabric and create a homemade aisle on the sand, add a few vases filled with flowers and let nature be your decor.

Buy a wooden slab to create a sign from craft stores or home improvement stores and decorate to your desire.

For the flower girl, this cute tutu skirt can be made from someone who knows how to sew with blue, tulle fabric found at craft stores.

A beach wedding is usually a casual affair. Try some inexpensive flip flops or nice flats and save a fancier shoe for the reception or vice versa.

Below are reception inspirations for a beach wedding:

Note: Lanterns, starfish, sea glass with candles, mercury glass urchin and nautilus are available from Pottery Barn. Mercury glass urchin and nautilus light up and require an electrical outlet. These shimmering shells cast a romantic glow. Imagine these items together in the evening on the beach during a reception!
