Invitations to this adult halloween masquerade ball were sent out months ago.

As the guests start to arrive on this cold October evening a chill is in the air.

Guests are ascending the stairs.

I greet my guests in mask and costume.

My guests bring many hostess gifts. This one of taffeta in orange and black to cloak a bottle of wine.

Music is playing in the background to set the mood.

The foyer is filled with Drusilla black and orange citrus roses with tufts of raven colored feathers. How enchanting.

The hallway leading to the great room is lined with black pumpkins and lit orange candle pumpkins giving off an eerie glow.

As you enter the great room your eyes are drawn to a large black fireplace.

Above the fireplace is a large mural of a gated cemetary with tombstones, trees, and fallen leaves.

Side tables display lit tombstone candles.

Ghostly white pumpkins all to remind you that you have entered the unknown.

Silver skulls.

Crossbone candle holders.

On the buffet table, black mice are skattered all around as if frozen in time.

Guest treat themselves to all kinds of goodies served on these scary plates.

Small owls hidden behind purple masks of their own are wondering hoos fooling who.

The black lacquer bar is a perfect match for these mercury glass pumpkins which line the bar.

Black and chrome skull martini shakers with double old fashioned glasses.

Wine is also served. This Bone Dry Red is an excellent choice.

Wine stoppers encrusted with swarovski crystals top wine bottles when not in use. A piece of art.

Spooky bar towels help wipe up spills. I'm not spillling a drop.

Tall, black martini glasses and small double old fashioned serve up strange and unusual concotions.

Large faux furs are tossed on the sofa which guest cuddle under to keep warm while sipping drinks.

Orange gothic skull pillow.

Black skull pillow.

White gothic goblet and spider pillows. Guest cuddle under the throws to keep warm while sipping drinks on this cold night.

Voluminous canisters let guests treat themselves to candy. No tricks required here.

Parting gifts are offered up in stylish witches boots.

These glass ornaments in sets of two with pretty black ribbon are given as parting gifts on this night of nights.

7. White pumpkins- Last I looked the large white one is still available-Pottery Barn. Look for these next year, they seem to come back each year.

8. Silver skull-Found this at Tai Pan Trading, 2010. curtain tie next to it from Halloween Haven, Grandin Road.

9. Crossbone candle holders, 2010 from Pottery barn on sale.

10. Mice- Pottery Barn. Love these, 2011. No longer available.

11. Appetizer plates-Pottery Barn. Very cute!

12. Small Owls- Olive & Cocoa. Waited too long and didn't get these little jewels. Trick!

13. Mercury Glass Pumpkins- These have come back for the last two years. I waited too long in 2010. I didn't make the same mistake in 2011. Pottery Barn. Trick!

14. Martini Shakers- Pottery Barn: 2009 or 2010, can't remember which.

19. Faux Fur- Pottery Barn- I have the black and white ones, just love them. The treat is that they come back with these each year. If you keep an eye out you might catch them on sale. Good luck.

20. Gothic Pillow- 2010 Halloween Haven, Grandin Road. Black skull pillow Target, 2010. Goblet pillow, 2010, Halloween Haven Grandin Road.

21. Jars- Pottery Barn. Treat. They have these each year in store.

22. Witches Boot- Tai Pan Trading this year. Love the shape of that boot.

23. Glass ornaments- This year on www. Christmastraditions.com. These are so cute but too heavy for tree ornaments and best to hang on jars or as gift tags. Treat! Still available.

Black Martini

The perfect recipe to fill those black martini glasses...

Ingredients:
3 1/2 oz gin or vodka
1/2 oz blackberry brandy or black raspberry liqueur
lemon twist for garnish

Preparation:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
Shake well.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or serve on the rocks in an old-fashioned glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist.

Teenie Weenie

Lori Mitchell's Halloween figures make a special gift on Halloween without breaking the bank. These two figures from her collection are small little Boo-2006 and Sweet Pea-2008 which were given to two special people in my life. Great to collect for male or female anytime during the year.

All the beautiful shades of Fall.

I love the mirror effect of this scene. Can you imagine waking up to this scene in the morning? Beautiful.

When I look at this bench with the dark brown contrast to the golden leaves and the rain that has passed over, I feel this overwhelming sense of calm.

Wouldn't it be fun to rake these leaves in a pile and then scatter them around the yard once again?

Absolutely stunning!
